Spring Storm Protection Starts with Tree Care

2/25/2022 (Permalink)

As we continue to ride out New England’s snowiest month, it seems premature to talk about spring storm damage prevention. The fact is, spring officially returns next month and with it, the chance to suffer storm damage. Preparing now will help you mitigate the chances -- or, at least, the severity -- of spring storm damage.

While you might already know to check the condition of your gutters and roof, you should also look at the landscape surrounding your house, focusing specifically on tree branches and their proximity to your home’s structure.

It’s entirely possible that some of the branches and limbs on your trees did not survive this latest winter, which can result in potentially dangerous branches that might damage your home if blown about by strong spring winds.

Rather than rely on your own eyes, enlist a professional arborist to evaluate the health of your trees and recommend any that need to be pruned back or possibly taken down altogether.

According to Scott Humphrey of Travelers, “A good rule of thumb is you want trees and limbs to be about 10 feet away from your home.”

Unfortunately, sometimes all the preparation in the world cannot protect your home from every eventuality. That’s why we invite you to contact SERVPRO of Danvers / Ipswich should you need professional storm clean up and storm remediation services.
